Plant Care
- Light: Place the Pearl Echeveria in bright indirect light. It can tolerate some direct sunlight but avoid intense midday sun, especially in hot climates.
- Watering: Water sparingly and allow the soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so err on the side of underwatering.
- Soil: Use a well-draining succulent or cactus potting mix. A mixture of perlite, sand, and regular potting soil works well.
- Temperature: Keep the plant in temperatures between 59-86°F (15-30°C) during the day and slightly cooler at night. Protect from frost and extreme heat.
- Humidity: Echeveria elegans prefers low to moderate humidity levels. It can tolerate dry air typical of indoor environments.
- Fertilization: Feed sparingly with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength during the growing season (spring and summer). Avoid fertilizing in winter.
- Container: Choose a pot with drainage holes to prevent waterlogging. Repot every 2-3 years or when the plant outgrows its container.
- Pruning: Remove dead or decaying leaves as needed. Prune leggy growth to maintain a compact shape.
- Propagation: Propagate from leaf or stem cuttings. Allow cuttings to callous before planting in a well-draining soil mix.
- Pests: Keep an eye out for common succulent pests such as aphids, mealybugs, and spider mites. Treat infestations promptly with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
- Support: Echeveria elegans generally does not require support but may benefit from staking if the rosette becomes top-heavy.
