Plant Care
- Light: Sempervivum Tectorum prefers full sun to partial shade. Place it in a location where it can receive at least 6 hours of sunlight per day.
- Watering: Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so err on the side of underwatering.
- Soil: Plant in well-draining soil with a sandy or rocky texture. A cactus or succulent potting mix works well.
- Temperature: Sempervivum Tectorum is cold-hardy and can withstand freezing temperatures down to -20°F (-29°C). It prefers cooler temperatures and can tolerate heat if provided with adequate moisture.
- Humidity: These plants are adapted to low humidity environments and do not require additional humidity.
- Fertilization: Sempervivum Tectorum is not heavy feeders. Fertilize sparingly with a balanced fertilizer diluted to half-strength during the growing season.
- Container: Plant in a shallow container with drainage holes to prevent waterlogging. Terra cotta pots work well as they allow for good air circulation.
- Pruning: Remove dead or decaying leaves as needed to maintain the plant’s appearance and health.
- Propagation: Sempervivum Tectorum can be propagated easily by separating offsets, or “chicks,” from the mother plant and replanting them in their own containers.
- Pests: Sempervivum Tectorum is relatively pest-resistant but may occasionally attract aphids or mealybugs. Remove pests by hand or treat infestations with insecticidal soap.
- Support: These plants do not typically require support structures.
